Getting tickets for the Wagner Festival rather late, I was unable to book in any of the hotels in Bayreuth and found the Hotel Reiterhof Bellevue Spa & Resort on line. It looked good and was only a short distance from Bayreuth so took a chance. What a find. A beautiful spa hotel high up on a hill beyond a picture perfect Bavarian village. Every room had either a balcony or terrace giving wonderful views across the countryside as well as the extensive grounds of the hotel. In addition to a more formal dining room and a relaxed bar there was also a terrace in the gardens where drinks and food were served and a small area by the pool. The spa facilities were excellent, a good sized pool (again, terrific views from the floor to ceiling windows) as well as two types of sauna, a steam room, and all that you would expect from a spa.
The bedroom was spacious and comfortable, with a sitting area, and as already mentioned, its own terrace; towelling robes and slippers were provided too.
A wedding party was being held on the night I was there and therefore the main restaurant was closed, however, the bar was open and serving delicious food, both local and more international. The staff were charming and helpful, with useful recommendations for food and wine.
My one cavil would be that there is only one, and a rather small at that, lift, which did cause some delays but one thing you hope to have at a spa is time.
To make it my hotel of choice for any future trips to the Wagner Festival, they even supply transport to and from the Festspielhaus in Bayreuth. What could be better! Wunderbar indeed.
