We stayed at the Red Lion for one night but spent two days in the village of Burnsall and its locality. This is a wonderful centre for exploring Wharfdale. We parked the car and didn't move it. It is an easy walk from the hotel to Grassington or Skyreholme along the River Wharfe, amid wonderful scenery and only a short drive to such places as Skipton, Ilkley and The Bolton Abbey Estate. The hotel is a traditional village inn, right next to the river. It is family owned and run and the staff are friendly and helpful. We ate in the hotel and the meal was ok although the food wasn't as hot as it could have been. (The hotel was very busy with a large party and lots of guests.) The menu featured local specialities and was freshly prepared. Our room was in the annexe which meant a walk along the street to get there but it was warm and cosy with a nice ensuite bathroom. It was very peaceful until unfortunately a fault in the fire alarm set it off just as we were settling down for the night. Breakfast, served in the main building was epic! full of local produce, it was delicious and generous with lots of variety. i would stay at the inn again and recommend it!
