My sister Mary and I were traveling to Liverpool for the Cunard 3 Queens celebrations. I wanted a hotel that was close to the Pier Head and Albert dock. We had an invitation to dinner on the Queen Mary 2 liner on Sunday 24th May as guests of Cunard. The Radisson Blu Hotel looked modern, comfortable and I liked the nod to the famous seafaring history of Liverpool.

I booked a room with disabled access as Mary is 75 in a few weeks and shower cubicles can be a problem for her. The room was on the fourth floor very close to the lift and was ideal. The room was large, the beds comfortable and the hotel had good soundproofing.

The reception area was spacious and very friendly staff booked us in quickly.
There is a bar with large TV and plenty of seating and a lovely Italian restaurant overlooking the River Mersey. Breakfast is also served in the restaurant and if you want a lie in after a busy day sightseeing, you can get breakfast up to midday. It costs an extra £10 per person but it is worth it the buffet breakfast has plenty of choices.

The Ark fitness Centre next door to the hotel has a lovely pool and sauna that hotel guests can use free.

We visited the Albert Dock which is excellent, took a tour bus from the Pier Head (£6 for seniors), and ate in the well recommended Tia Pan Chinese Restaurant in Hanover Street.

The lifts in the hotel can be very confusing especially if you are trying to reach the Ark Fitness Centre. This really does need to be more clearly marked as we gave up trying to reach the centre on our second day.

The landings in the hotel look like the decks of a large ship and I would love to return to this hotel.
