Getting to another destination

We enjoy the long relaxing sea days of transatlantic cruising, but we had rough seas for 9 of the 11 days on this cruise which has to be the most we have ever experienced- two days were spent going round and round Bermuda until the ship could dock. It was very quiet in the Clocktower Mall at Royal Naval Dockyard – not many shops were open in the usually interesting shopping center.

I do not know why UK ships always try to make Bermuda the first port on a winter crossing in January as we have enjoyed many transatlantics where the ship sails south then across. We have good sea legs but the ship was so tossed by the wind and waves that it was simply safer to be in bed so after breakfast every day we returned to our cabin and got into bed. Lunchtime came – very nice light lunch in the Britannia Dining Room then again – back to the safety of our bed. Dinner time – usually managed a short walk holding onto the handle along the corridors – all doors to the outside decks were closed as it was unsafe. Evening entertainment was very limited – it was unsafe for performers!

We just lovely being rocked to sleep!

I have never been on a cruise when two wine glasses which were standing on top of the refrigerator flew through the air to crash on the wall opposite!

Our second port of call was Port Canaveral and that was a lovely rest from rough seas. There was even a very efficiently run complimentary shuttle service to the nearby town of Cocoa Beach.

I do not know if we were more glad to disembark in Fort Lauderdale onto dry land or whether we were more thrilled that our clothes still fit!
