Two gripes – one seasonal, one presumably year round – otherwise much to commend this airport hotel. I booked a dinner, bed and breakfast deal which, when I got to the table for my evening meal, was told covered either the 3-course meal on the set menu, or a £20 allowance on their a la carte menu .. I specifically asked whether this also included the wine on that menu and was told ‘yes’ (good for me as I’m usually a main-course only person, when travelling on my own). Having chosen a main in the £15-16 mark, and having two glasses of their wine, my final bill clearly listed the £4.65 under-spend on food, but the full £13 for the two glasses of wine. When I queried this I was told that the £20 allowance was only for food. Not good. Second gripe – ok, it was the beginning of February, and I don’t like my bedroom to be too hot – but the room heater is not up to dealing with winter cold in this part of the world. Good job I had my cardy with me! Good points? Quite a few. The hotel is very well situated for the airport and their stay-and-fly package is reasonably priced. The adjacent car part can be muddy in wet weather, so drop your stuff (and any passengers with ‘fashion’ shoes) at the hotel before getting your (park across the road) long-stay ticket from reception. Free WiFi, and a large safe. The room, though dated, was fresh and clean. Tea and coffee making facility, hair dryer and Corby trouser press (not that I use such a thing!). Bathroom fine; though with an over-bath shower (part of the dated-ness?) – but it was a good, strong shower with instant hot water. This (upstairs, twin-bedded) room was quite spacious for this level of hotel – have stayed in one of their ground-floor rooms in the past with my wife, and that (double-bed) room was smaller. Continental breakfast can be brought to your room from 0300 onwards (leave the card with your order on the door handle before midnight); or continental/cooked (to order) in the restaurant from 0700. The shuttle bus to the airport for departure (and back again on arrival to collect your car) is regularly-timed and, at £1.50pp for the two-way trip, is very reasonable.
