One of our favourite restaurants in Funchal is “PVP” – the initials stand for “pao, vinho, pesticos” which means “bread, wine, snacks”. The restaurant is situated in the tourist area near the Pestana Promenade resort where we usually stay. The staff are always very friendly and welcoming and the food is delicious. In particular, I’d recommend some of their fish dishes(especially the salted cod) and their chicken and mushrooms! There is a wide selection of very tasty wines and they also hold wine tastings from their extensive cellars. If we are in Madeira at Christmastime, we usually book for a Christmas Eve meal there.
As a further recommendation, there are always plenty of local people there which means it isn’t just another tourist eatery.
The cuisine is Portuguese, but the box doesn’t allow for this, so I’ve put international. Our last visit was December 2019, but we have been there often.
