I organised a surprise night out in London for my husband's birthday. I booked this hotel about a month before and got the room only rate at just £167 for a classic room. It is just a five minute walk from Kings Cross so we didn't have to heave our luggage on the bus or underground when we got into London.

On getting to the reception, being as I'd given them prior knowledge that we were celebrating his birthday, they immediately upgraded us to a deluxe room. When we got to the room there was a lady waiting for us with a tray of fruit, a bottle of red wine, petite fours and written on the tray with chocolate were the words "Happy Birthday". It was such a lovely surprise!

We were out to a concert that night so didn't dine in but we had cocktails on our return and the ambience at the bar was top notch. Our room had been turned down, more chocolates on the pillow. Toiletries were Roger & Gallet even down to eau de cologne. Plush towels and robes. Tea and coffee in the room including a nespresso machine with different types of coffees available.

When we left in the morning, they offered to keep our luggage till our train left which meant we were able to enjoy some luggage free retail therapy till ready to board!

It couldn't have gone better. I was very impressed with the value for money. The rate displayed for our room was £447. So early booking is essential. We have booked again in a few weeks time.
