Reasons for trip

I like Prezzo although I’m never sure how to pronounce it as a friend constantly tells me I should say Pretzo.

They offer good food and drinks at reasonable prices. They also have specials which are great for regular visitors and lighter options are ideal if I’m on the dreaded diet.

We’d recently visited Kings Cross branch and enjoyed a fabulous pizza and chicken ravioli. However, as the restaurant is on an open terrace, I did have to sit in my coat and our conversation was interrupted by loud, regular announcements such as “the train for Leeds is now boarding at platform 10”.

However, this didn’t put me off and I booked a table at the Northumberland Avenue branch, just off Trafalgar Square, to take my god-daughter out to celebrate starting her new job. Presumably because we’d booked, we were shown to one of the semi circular booths at the restaurant’s rear rather than being stuck with the hoi polloi.

We shared garlic bread whilst we contemplated the menu over a bottle of house Prezzo Trebbiano. The wine was a reasonable £15.55 bearing in mind we’d just paid £21 for a bottle of white in Whitehall’s Red Lion. Roy went for roast pork belly, Becky chose my favourite dish of all time, lasagne, and I decided to go for something different, goat’s cheese al forno. This was a big mistake: the other dishes looked fabulous but mine looked like something I’d rustle up from my store cupboard mid week. The tomato and pesto sauce was pretty bland and whilst the goat’s cheese was tasty, there were only a few little blobs dotted over the pasta.

However, the bill for the meal was £55.85, the others were pleased with their dishes and the waiter was happy for us to sit and chat over our wine when the meal was finished.
It was a real let down for me and my lesson learned is go with a tried and trusted
favourite. Next time, it’ll be pizza or lasagne!
