We stayed two nights at this hotel whilst attending a family wedding in Newcastle Upon Tyne. We booked online paying in advance on a no refund for cancellation basis for which we were charged just £35 a night for our spacious room.! We feel we got excellent value for money!
This Premier Inn is located a twenty minute drive North from Newcastle Upon Tyne, so it certainly does not offer a city centre location but it does offer quieter surroundings in South East Northumberland with easy road access to the city and the surrounding Northumberland Coast and Countryside.
Arriving, we parked in the hotel’s free car park (which has disabled car parking bays next to the hotel entrance.). We were greeted by a friendly male Receptionist who offered to carry our cases to our room on the first floor. The hotel only has two floors the ground floor and the first floor. For those not able to manage stairs there are plenty of ground floor rooms.
We were given what we presumed was a spacious family room – a double bed plus a single bed. Our room was well maintained and the housekeeping excellent – it was spotlessly clean. Our bathroom which contained a bath and shower over the bath was sparkling clean. We enjoyed a very peaceful and comfortable night’s sleep on both the nights we stayed at this hotel.
Breakfast is served in the adjoining Beefeater Grill which was nicely furnished and spacious. The full breakfast costing £8.75 which includes a serve yourself cold buffet – cereals, fruits, breads, yogurts, and hot food cooked to order The hot food was ok, but rather mediocre when compared to other Premier Inn’s but nothing to complain about and certainly sufficient enough to sustain us until we ate again at the wedding reception late afternoon.
We skipped breakfast the next day, but we were told by other guests that the Sunday Lunch at this hotel was very good so we decided to give the restaurant another chance to impress us and this time they did!.
A separate area of this spacious restaurant is used for the table service lunch and evening meals. We were allocated a rather nice window table. Our server was friendly and smiley. Soon we ordered a traditional Sunday lunch- slow roasted beef. It took a little while for it to arrive ( I never mind waiting in a restaurant, it always tells me the food is freshly cooked), Our meal was really tasty, the beef was very tender, melt in your mouth beef, which was accompanied by Roast Potatoes – and there was plenty of them, , mashed suede and carrot, green beans, Yorkshire Pudding with a jug of delicious gravy. Our desert of Warm Chocolate Brownie and cream rounded the meal off nicely. Our lunch cost total £24.99 (excluding drinks) for two which we thought was quite competitive.
The Reception Staff at this Premier Inn are lovely, we met three during our stay and they really did go the extra mile to make us feel at home. I think staff can make a big difference to how people feel about a hotel, the staff here certainly do add value.
12 o’clock check out as is the norm with Premier Inn; was appreciated, it enabled us to have a leisurely morning after our busy previous day.
Close to this hotel are attractions such as Northumberlandia (around a ten minute drive), Woodhorn Museum (around 15 minute drive) , the coast- Whitley Bay and Tynemouth around a twenty minute drive. The city of Newcastle Upon Tyne a twenty minute Drive. There is a bus service to the city from close to the hotel
.
I would recommend this hotel and we intend staying here again.
