Situation ;- Moto Service Area between Junctions 32 and 33 of the M6. Not the most obvious place to stay, I admit, but actually it is rather good. It is on the far side of the Service area, but separated from most of it by a grassed area with trees and picnic tables. The room we had was of good size, spotlessly clean, with a comfortable bed and a nice bathroom. Unlike some Travelodges the decor was in good order and the place did not feel tired and worn out .

Outside there is some noise from the motorway – a low background hum – but in the room, you cannot hear it. The rooms at the back look onto a field and there was a small herd of cattle grazing / sleeping some 10 yards from our window .

Parking is free and handy to the hotel but you must register your registration number at reception or pay to park.

The staff we met were friendly and helpful. The city of Lancaster is about 6 miles away on the A6 . Avoid the morning rush hour it is bad. Also avoid parking in the centre of Lancaster -their one way system is a shocker. There wasn't a sign advising you it was on a one way system when we came out of the car park we used – an accident waiting to happen??

Food wise, we opted out of the fried motorway cafe food scene and instead went to the M &S shop at the service area – we bought a really good selection of seafood and interesting vegetable dishes plus some tasty Italian breads. We had a really nice supper sitting at a picnic table amongst the trees, with a glass of wine.

The room cost us £21.00 for the night and the al fresco meal was £19 .Excellent value for money and well worth doing again.
