Culture/Sightseeing

We stayed at the Hotel Petinos in Platis Gialos, Mykonos before we headed off cruising around the Greek Islands.

Not to be confused with the sister Hotel Petinos Beach (you can use their facilities), we stayed in apartment annexe, which was much cheaper than the main hotel. We saw a room within the main hotel and it was of a higher standard than our room – to be expected at the rate we paid.

The hotel is in a good spot at the end of the bay, breakfast was included at the hotels Blue Myth restaurant with some tables overlooking the beach. Whilst we didn’t have dinner at the restaurant the menu looked reasonable by Mykonos standards. There was a good selection at breakfast of hot and cold buffet food and it closed at 11am, great for late risers.

The pool area was lovely, much quieter than we had anticipated given we travelled in August. However, there aren’t sun loungers more like bean bag loungers. The pool was refreshing rather than warm! However, we decided to use the pool at the Petinos Beach hotel across the road as it had good views and comfy sun loungers.

Used the small gym at the sister hotel too, there’s no natural light nor air conditioning, not particularly well equipped but sufficient. There was also a sauna although we didn’t use it.

The apartment rooms were adequate. A good size but our air conditioning unit was very noisy (as was the case in our friends room too). We didn’t use the cooking facilities, but the fridge came in really handy. We had a small private balcony with nice views. The apartments are set a short distance up the hill from the main hotel, so when you check in you’re then transported back up the hill and to your room – note there are lots of steps so not suitable for those with mobility issues.

Would give the room 3 star rating but the hotel pool, restaurant and use of sister hotel facilities are an added bonus.

Note the hotel is in the same resort as the infamous DK Oyster beach bar, which charges 65 euros for a ‘wellington boot’ of beer.
