On a gloriously sunny day we drove from our holiday villa to the spectacular Pou Clar natural springs and crystal clear pools. We stopped at the supermarket in Ontinyent for picnic food and drinks and made our way down the hundred or so steps and along the paths to find our for ourselves why this area is so popular with the Spanish youth.
Youngsters dressed in barely there swim wear laughed and flirted as they sunbathed on the rocks, pushed each other into the shallows and generally had some good old fashioned fun. Not a mobile phone or computer game in sight.
Once we had chosen our picnic spot, which involved a wade across the water to a slightly more secluded spot it was tine to brave the elements and swim in the clear water.
On the count of three I jumped and the coldness of the water almost took my breath away. A brisk swim soon warmed me up and I clambered out onto the rocks on the other side of the pool. Teenagers were nimbly climbing the rocks and jumping from heights that made me feel dizzy just looking at them.
I did manage a hop from a height of about three feet and that was quite enough!
After my swim I sat back to watch the youngsters frolic and a line of ants carrying off a dropped crisp. A lovely day out whether you like a touch of daring or are happy to simply watch.
