Reasons for trip

This makes an easy walk and is one of our favourites. It needs to be done at low tide as the walk takes you across the beach from Morfa Nefyn.

There is plenty of car parking in a field on the road to the golf course. Steps lead down to the beach from the corner of the car park. Alternatively, drop down the road to the beach past the Cliffs Hotel. Turn left and walk along the beach past some old stone houses. At high tide, the water laps round their foot. Beyond is the small settlement of Porth Dinllaen. This was once planned to be the main ferry port for Ireland, but lost out to holyhead. Now there are a few houses clustered around the pub. Painted a dull red shade, this is called Ty Coch. This serves meals and adults can enjoy a drink while the kids play in the sand. There are superb views across the bay to Nefyn and the Rivals in the background.

A narrow footpath runs from the last house along the cliffs to the lifeboat station set in the next small cove with a sandy beach. This is usually quieter than the main beach. From here, there is a lovely walk along the grass covered headland colourful with wild flowers. Below are rocks and if you are lucky you may see seals.

Either return the same way or from Porth Dinllaen follow the track back across the golf links, watching out for golf balls.

This is a very satisfying walk. it is easy and can be enjoyed by all ages.
