“Piya”:http://www.piyabarandkitchen.co.uk/ is a Turkish restaurant in Epping which we’ve visited several times over the last year. The last time was in late September when the weather was so sunny at lunchtime, we asked if we could sit out on the pavement terrace.
On previous occasions we’ve been during the week when there is an excellent value lunch “menu”:http://www.piyabarandkitchen.co.uk/assets/img/piyabar-lunchmenu.pdf with two options: two courses for either £11 or £13. On a Saturday, we had to choose from the a la carte “menu”:http://www.piyabarandkitchen.co.uk/assets/img/Piyabar-mainmenu.pdf. I love Turkish food and found it difficult to choose from the 11 cold and 11 hot appetisers with all the traditional favourites like hummus, falafel and halloumi, all priced around £5. In the end I went for taramasalata and used the complimentary balloon shaped bread to scoop it up. Other choices were slightly less Turkish traditional: creamy garlic mushrooms and prawn and avocado salad.
From the heading Yoghurt Dishes, two of us opted for yogurtlu chicken shish – chicken skewered and grilled over charcoal on a bed of bread topped with tomato sauce and yoghurt and drizzled with butter. It was served with a lovely fresh mixed salad and a nice sized portion of rice.
The wine list is well priced and we had a bottle of Sicilian white for £19.50.
We were definitely too full for dessert or coffee.
