Reasons for trip

This is a park and hill with the entrance on Ujezd Street and you can get trams 6,9, 12, 20 or 22 from town.

This is a hill in Central Prague covered with parks. It has a TV tower on top, a miniature of the Eiffel tower in Paris but, legend goes, that the Czechs, not to be outdone by the Eiffel’s height, built their own on top of the hill so with both heights combined theirs stood taller!

When we arrived in the afternoon the queue for the funicular railway (the easy way up) was several hundred people long with a waiting time of at least 40 mins, so we began our slow way up. However, there were lots of paths of varying intensity, some steep with steps (and quicker) and some winding at easy gradients, The way up was ordinary parkland, lined with an odd interesting tree, café and the statue of the romantic poet Macha.. When we bothered to turn around, it allowed us to pause and catch our breath without embarrassment to admire the view of Prague. The walk took us 25 -30 mins.

At the top, it is a whole different world. Groups of people were processing with a banner (religious I presumed), a mirror maze. an observatory, and interesting gardens in different styles. It was a lovely place for the locals and visitors to spend a few hours to relax.

There was no queue for the funicular to come down and the views from it were superb.
