You reach Peter Island by boat from Tortola. It’s a pleasant 40 minute ride to the resort. The island itself is beautiful with exotic plants and wildlife (iguanas and lizards). There’s a fabulous beach with all kinds of watersports and perfect bathing for young children. A beach restaurant is the venue for lunch each day, and there is a variety of entertainment such as steel bands and stilt walkers. There’s another restaurant up near the main reception which is a lot smarter for evening meals. The quality of the food and service is excellent. Rooms are chalet style and virtually on the beach with outdoor garden area and hammocks – bliss! They are well-equipped with great bathrooms and easy ground floor access. There’s a fantastic spa on the island with a huge range of treatments, including a massage parlour for two where you can be pampered to the sound of the waves. A large swimming pool with a nearby bar and library / games room makes a change from the beach. It’s recommended to spend at least one day on Tortola for shopping, as well as taking out a boat one day (the easiest is a speed boat with driver) to visit some of the other islands – Jost Van Dyke with its legendary bar – and for amazing snorkelling and cave exploring. If you can’t quite afford a week on Necker Island to live like the Bransons, this is the next best thing!
