We exchanged into Pestana Promenade Resort by timeshare. The resort is located to the west of Funchal in the 'hotels' area. Pestana Promenade is part hotel and part timeshare. It is a 15/20 minute walk into Funchal.
The gardens around the hotel are beautiful, well tended and with loads of colourful flowers and plants.
For the first time ever, we booked a Studio apartment. We didn't really know what to expect but we were very pleasantly surprised.
It was a large room (1217) on the 3rd floor with a view of the pool and sea. The room was a 'lock off' although we never heard anyone next door.
It had 2 single beds together, a dining table and chair and a single armchair. There was a very well equipped kitchen with dishwasher, 2 ring hob, microwave and a fridge. No oven though. Plenty of crockery and cooking utensils though.
It also had a huge bathroom with a shower over the bath and a bidet!
Most important of all was the balcony with table and 2 chairs and we spent a lot of time out there in the morning or evening sun.
The public areas were very well kept and clean. There was a huge pool and a café next to it which served lunches, snacks and drinks. Plenty of sunbeds but we did watch people reserving sunbeds every morning.
There was a gate to the promenade below which was access with your room key. We went for a walk along the promenade every evening.
The only warning I have is that Pestana charge a 50 Euro service fee upon arrival to all timeshare owners. Could be a shock if you didn't know.
