Third visit for me to Funchal. Got late deal with Thomson for B&B at Pestana Carlton Madeira – end of March/beginning April. Hotel very nice, good location and staff very efficient and helpful. Buffet breakfast in large dining room was excellent with something for everyone. I had been ill before we left and requested poached eggs for breakfast although there was nothing to suggest they were available they were duly prepared for me. Only complaint was regarding the Taverna Restaurant located inside the hotel. It is only open 3 days a week – I think Friday to Sunday. We decided to eat there one night and was very disappointed with the food. I returned what I had ordered and the replacement dish was no better. I ended up having no dinner that night. No complaints about the pub in the hotel – had lunch there which was nice. Would definitely use this hotel again since everything (apart from the taverna) was of a very high standard.
