Now that the holidaymakers have left, I’ve taken to walking around my hometown of Penzance again, regardless of weather. Yesterday the sun was shining and there were few people about. Meandering around the backstreets my eye was drawn to an A4 sheet stuck in a cottage window, a poem. I read it and then noticed a box on the windowsill containing a stack of the poems, inviting me to take one, so I did, and thought I’d share it with you all.
LOCKDOWN IS BACK
Lockdown is back
What did I say?
In your desire for normality
You pretend ole Covid
had just gone away.
You didn’t keep your distance
in fact many of you were quite rude
and never gave way
not on the streets
nor on the coastal path
and looked at you strangely
as if you were quite crude
when asked if they had given way
at any time of that day
just gave a silly laugh
and barged right on past.
And holidaymakers
you constant rule breakers
were the worst of the lot.
Now is the time
to try to be sublime
think more of others
go out of your way
or pause for a second
until the path is clear
Smile and be cheerful
Don’t be bullied by fear.
Patience is needed now
it costs nothing to do
everyone should have it
And that includes you.

This Christmas, like so many people, it will be just me and my hubby but we are so looking forward to next year, when, hopefully, we can be reunited with our family once again. Love and Best Wishes from Penzance. Roll on 2021
