The Test Valley in Hampshire is a good place for walking and the area round Stockbridge and Longstock is no exception. We started our 7 mile walk in Stockbridge (lots of street parking) and made our way over Houghton Down towards Danebury Hillfort. It's not tough going and offers great views over the downs. the Hillfort is about 3 miles into the walk and is one of the best Iron Hill forts in Britain. The path then takes you down hill into the Test Valley to Longstock. The Peat Spade Inn (on route) is a great place to stop offering great quality pub food and you can eat in the cosy bar or in the restaurant.

The fish and chips were the best I have tasted. Its a bit pricey but worth the cost. The beer is from a new new Upham Brewery who took over the Peat Spade in September 2014. Great beer!! The Inn also has rooms which we took a peep and are very well furnished to a very high quality.
Great atmosphere and excellent staff. For those who like Gin, the Peat spade has over 20 different types on offer. So a must for Gin lovers.
After a great lunch, we returned to Stockbridge via the old Test Valley Railway for a good day out walking. The route is in the 50 Walks in Hampshire and Isle of Wight published by the AA.
