Reasons for trip

It had been nearly 50 years since I last visited Palma in Mallorca. Then I was considerably younger and my main goal was the beach, a tan and fun filled evenings! My then boyfriend , now husband, and I never visited the cathedral although we saw it in the distance. That was for older people!!! Now so much later we are members of that group but I am very sad that we did not visit sooner. Such a beautiful place – externally it’s situation is magnificent. It sits within the old city of Palma which is in itself lovely to wander around! The interior is just awe inspiring. The sun filtered through the stained glass windows transforming the grey interior pillars into rods of colour. It was October so not as busy as I think it might be in the summer months so one was able to wander around and view the different chapels in peace and quiet which really helped absorb the sheer beauty of the place. We spent much longer there than we expected as there really was so much to see and examine. I would also stress that it is not just for the old….it really is somewhere we should take our grandchildren. Mine would have also enjoyed the cathedral’s beauty. It might also make younger generations consider why with all our current technology and expertise we cannot build such magnificent edifices. It is amazing that so much was achieved in earlier centuries, People of future generations will no doubt wonder why!
