Along with Edinburgh Castle, this has got to be a must-see for all visitors to the city. It’s not open all year as it’s still the official residence of the Queen when she visits Edinburgh, so it’s worth checking in advance.
The Palace is magnificent – beautifully restored and preserved and rich in the history of Scotland, England, the wars between the two and their eventual union. The history of the Palace continues to be made even today as many events and celebrations are still held there.
There are also interesting ruins of the old palace abbey and walks around the estate. Additionally, you can visit the exhibition called The Royal Collection, but this is an extra charge.
If you like history, then this is for you! It’s very much the Scottish equivalent of Buckingham Palace.
