Reasons for trip

Until three years ago we had never visited Painshill Park & Gardens despite living only a 15 minute drive away for the past 30 years! What a big mistake but we are now making up for lost time. As with most places like this your entry fee is refunded if you take out membership on the day of your visit. Also if you have joint membership you are able to take a friend or family member in for free if not being accompanied by your partner. Painshill Park is an 18th century landscape garden designed by Charles Hamilton around 1738 and no matter how many times you visit. It never disappoints! Please be aware that the only other toilets are situated at the other end of the park in the Gothic tower so my tip would be to take advantage of the toilets at the entrance before starting your tour. Disabled guests and those with walking difficulties may find some parts of the park difficult to negotiate although I believe they have buggies available at certain times of the year. Please see this link for more info www.painshill.co.uk/

There is free admission for carers of registered disabled visitors.

The small walled garden just past the entrance is worth a look particularly in the spring and summer months. The gift shop is also worth a look – it even sells Painshill sparkling wine from their own grapevines! Dogs are allowed on leads throughout the park.

Some of the park is total fantasy. The buildings look surreal and makes for some fantastic photo opportunities. There is a fascinating history surrounding the various “follies” and there is an information board at each area which is really useful. A variety of activities can be undertaken at Painshill e.g. photography courses and there are lots of exhibitions and things to do. Last year there was a bee keeping event which was so interesting as well as being very topical. Please see the following link for what’s on www.painshill.co.uk/whats-on/

The newly restored Crystal Grotto is well worth a look however it’s not open all the time as it’s manned by volunteers so check first if you are planning a visit.

There are lovely views, beautiful scenery, an old watermill, wildlife and so many amazing photographic images whatever the season.

I have taken many friends and family members to Painshill Park and they have all been amazed – wishing this was on their doorstep like it is for us! A small café is just past the entrance with outdoor seating. I have never used this to date but intend to have a coffee there whilst visiting with a friend next week.

This is a superb place. Despite visiting many, many times I never fail to enjoy my visit and see something different each time. The membership is worth every penny and helps support this registered charity.
