We flew out of Gatwick on Easyjet to Krakow – no problems with delays, etc. Taxi straight to the hotel and a delicious meal. In the morning we met the coach and were driven to Birkenau first. It was very sobering to see the rails, gateway and the last remaining chimney featured in so many films and documentaries.
We then went to Auschwitz, where there are numerous buildings now converted into showing how each ethnic group was exterminated. We didn’t really have the time to go to the salt mines – a ‘must see’ I understand – nor Oskar Schindler’s factory but we will be returning to Krakow next year, not least to see more of the city.
