Reasons for trip

Went to Oslo for a week’s holiday from 3 to 10 Sept 2016. Only £40 return to fly with Ryan Air from Stansted but Oslo is an expensive city to live in. We found a great airbnb apartment in Skoyen with floor to ceiling glass windows. My 4 children, all grown up now joined me for a family get together.

There are lots of museums to explore – get a Visit Oslo pass to get free entry to over 30 places though I only managed 12 over 3 days.

Transport is fast and efficient. We were in central Oslo within 5 minutes from Skoyen and the airport is only half an hour away.

Lovely parks and sculpture gardens to explore, and don’t forget the imposing ski jump and ski museum which is a short train ride out. The city centre is quite compact and we walked to most places within the city.

Eating out is enjoyable as long as you don’t mind the prices. Plan on spending at least double what you budgeted for. Alcohol is mega expensive even at supermarkets so we just drank less. Water is free at most restaurants anyway.

If you have the time hire a car to visit Flam a few hours drive away, and the stunning Flam mountain railway.
