Despite the adverse FCO travel advice, I decided to return to my favourite Tunisian hotel for the 18th time. Very easy to book direct flights from London to Tunis with Tunis Air. Booked the hotel directly too and they organised private transfer too.
A 4 star all inclusive hotel (all inclusive available 24 hours a day). The wonderful staff really make this place so good. Various bars and eating places dotted around the extensive grounds.
Sadly, 2 weeks into my 3 week holiday, I had a fall and broke my hip resulting in a 5 day stay in local private clinic. After I was discharged I had a further 9 weeks in the hotel to recuperate until the doctors and insurance company said I was fit to fly home. The staff at the hotel went far beyond the call of duty …. pushing me around in a wheelchair for the first 2 weeks of my extended stay. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
The main moral of this story is to remind everyone of the need to take adequate travel insurance. If I had not, it would have cost me almost £10,000 in hospital fees and extra hotel room fees for the extended stay.
