What a great time we had today at the matinee of this show!I had heard it was funny but never expected it to be this good! Don't think 5 minutes went by without laughing…the scenes with the old waiter were hilarious.I've never been a big lover of "slapstick" stuff but I was laughing out loud……no wonder it has won awards!
There was the odd swear word & risque scene but nothing truly offensive (unless you are easily offended.) The audience participation sections were really funny….but I won't elaborate just in case they are similar for each show.
We had seats in the Royal Dress Circle, on the side in 3rd row which offered a good view (we prefer the dress circle for most shows). I was lucky enough to get them discounted but this was one show that I definitely wouldn't have minded paying full price as it was excellent!
The lead actor (Rufus Hound, a comedian) was brilliant and the cast were great too (some instantly recognisable!) but I regret not seeing James Corden in the lead role as I imagine his acclaimed reviews were well deserved as the role was perfectly suited to him!
I would gladly go again as I've not laughed this much at a play since seeing Eric Sykes in a farce ("Run for your Wife" I think) a few years ago.
