Relaxation

For the May Half Term we took our Grandchildren (aged 9 and 11 years) on their first holiday abroad to Cyprus. We wanted it to be really fun, stress free for their first time holiday abroad experience. We chose to go with BA and decided on The Hotel Olympic Lagoon Resort & Spa, Nissi Bay, a 5* all inclusive.

We flew from Heathrow Terminal 5 using the parking and pod service. WOW, well Amy and Ashley were on a high even before we took off. We would thoroughly, 100% recommend this service. OK a little expensive £132 for one week but the automated pod holds 4 passengers comfortably with 4 suitcases and delivers you straight into your terminal. After our self check in and passing through passport control we were free to shop and take photos of the planes. We had breakfast at Giraffe and then it was time to board our 11am flight ( No delays, YEH )

Who was going to sit by the window seat !!! Thinking ahead we booked 2 seats in front and 2 seats behind so they both had good views.

*Just a tip make sure the window view seats aren’t blocked by the aeroplanes wings.
Knowing it was a 4 hour flight we were prepared with cards, uno, pencils and paper, reading books, iPad and snacks.

We landed at Larnaca ( 2 hour time difference ) we had arranged for a people carrier to pick us up. It was worth every penny.

Arriving at the hotel we were given a friendly welcome and greeted with cold flannels to freshen up and a non alcoholic cocktail, the Grandchildren felt very spoilt. Straight away a porter drove us to our family room with our cases, no waiting.

Our accommodation was modern, light and roomy. The bathroom was beautiful with a wet room next to the bath ( I want one ) The towels were white and fluffy as were the dressing gowns. There was plenty of wardrobe space ( but I always take extra hangers ) There was a fridge, tea making facilities. There was a huge room that if you wanted you could section off by means of sliding doors. There were two televisions, one for our room with a double bed and two singles for the Grandchildren.

The french doors led out to our own private garden, with table and chairs, sunbeds and parasols ( brilliant space for keeping inflatable doughnuts ) There was a gate that led out to the swimming pool. Just perfect.

The week we were there happened to have a mini heatwave so having the garden in the shade was a such a bonus. The Hotel had an indoor pool a bit on the cold side, we couldn’t get Grandpa in.

There was a pool just for adults, one for toddlers with a galleon, slide and sunshade over the pool and then the main pool absolutely huge. Our Grandchildren lived in the water for the week. It gets better, this hotel has a Lazy River with single or double floats and you can drift round on a gentle current. Bliss! Such fun.

BEST IDEA EVER.

On our first day we were given cards for towels and you were allocated sunbeds with parasols for the week, no stress having to claim your bed each day. The staff were so accommodating and did their best they could for you to choose your spot.

Nissi Beach is a 5 minute walk across the road, safe for children but because we were having an unexpected heatwave we spent our time in our Hotel which was a blessing.
There are lots of areas to sit, Snackeria open from 10.30am to 6pm. At 12 we came out of the sun, had lunch, played cards and moved on to Scoops who had a variety of ice-creams and milk shakes and next door was a playground with sunshades.

Sometimes we would go back to our garden which was in the shade and at 4pm we would use the indoor pool. After 45 minutes of being water bombed we returned to Lazy River and the Pool where we played ‘Piggy in the Middle’ then diving through inflatable rings and being chased by sharks.

The Hotel has a huge range of entertainment for all ages, seven days a week. There is water aerobics, table tennis, darts but our Grandchildren liked to do their own thing but this is what holidays are all about.

One day Amy scratched her leg on her bed and immediately they came and replaced it
There is a handy little Shop in the Hotel selling essentials, souvenirs and not overpriced.

The Hotel has weddings in a very pretty secluded area. Sometimes Amy and I would catch a glimpse of the bride or wedding guests and loved seeing their outfits.

In the evenings The All Stars Entertainment put on some great shows such as Thriller, The Greatest Showman, Grease and The Jersey Boys to name but a few. Great performances. Sometimes we would just play cards and the Grandchildren would have their ‘Bora Bora’ a non alcoholic cocktail. After a days swimming and a show when it came to bedtime they were out like a light.

There are 7 restaurants in the hotel to choose from we mainly used the Buffet Restaurant. Being fussy eaters, Heinz Tomato Ketchup is an absolute necessity, so we packed 2 bottles to take with us. When the Grandchildren went into the Buffet Restaurant there was an ENORMOUS bottle of Heinz ‘on tap’ there eyes widened.

Could their holiday get any better!

The only negative we found was The Rock N Roll Diner where the food was not up to the rest of the hotels standard.

Mobile phone and internet access was brilliant.

On leaving we were able to extend our room for 25 Euros for 2 hours which was brilliant and much appreciated.

We had booked a private car to take us back to Larnica Airport. Our flight had only a 20 minutes delay, then back to Heathrow, into the ‘pods’.

Thanks to BA and Hotel Olympic Lagoon Resort this was a fantastic stress free week just what holidays should be, thank you.
