Reasons for trip

We discovered this award-winning adults only campsite, by chance, when seeking campsites in Somerset online.

The Old Oaks is a popular destination for a short break, with visitors returning year-on-year, so advance booking is advised. We were lucky to get a cancellation at the end of August, and we were not disappointed.

The site has spacious pitches for caravans and motorhomes and there are well appointed glamping cabins and luxury shepherds huts (some with hot tubs) to hire.
Situated just outside Glastonbury in a perfect location for scenic views of the Somerset countryside, this site is immaculately maintained with well manicured flowerbeds and borders. The on site washing and toilet facilities are hotel quality and everything was kept perfectly clean and Covid-19 safe during our stay.

Dogs are welcome at Old Oaks, they have dog washing facilities, a dog walking area, and they even sell doggy ice cream in the shop!

There is a small well stocked fishing lake on site – my husband was very pleased with his catch during an afternoon spent peacefully by the water.
The staff is very helpful and there is a well-stocked shop in reception selling a range of goods, including local produce, brews and the lovely home-made cakes (which change daily and sell out fast).

For the active visitor, there are footpaths from the site suitable for walking or cycling – the terrain is quite hilly. There is a direct route to Glastonbury Tor, which is well worth the climb, to see the views across the Mendip Hills.

In Glastonbury there is the abbey, set in 36 acres, to explore – in the town the shops reflect the quirky nature of the Glastonbury Festival (festival week is probably not the best time to visit – unless you are a festival goer although, sadly, this year it was cancelled).

It is worth a short drive to Wells, with its cathedral and grounds and range of shops and places to eat.

There are plenty of places to visit further afield. Cheddar Gorge and the Somerset Levels are also just a drive away and a trip to the coast, at Burnham on Sea, only takes half an hour.

There is Wi-Fi access on site and a visiting takeaway vans most evenings. In non Covid-19 times we understand the site also offers activities such as painting courses.
This is an adults only site, so no children around, but both younger and more mature couples and individuals were evident during our stay. An evening stroll around the site proved Old Oaks to be a friendly, welcoming and relaxing holiday venue. We managed to extend our four-day trip to a full week and would happily return again.
