In these pandemic times I have been out to a restaurant only twice. The most recent visit was to a new establishment in Stratford, Ontario called “Old Man & Son”:https://oldmanandson.com/?fbclid=IwAR3W-bOwh9DiMKIidhZFv4CU2GNyxHXh6n_5Ybarr_7f_uB3PiZo8fVKjxo. It is located just off the Market Square downtown so there is easy access to parking either in the square or on Erie Street in the parking lot just west of the square. The décor is a cross between industrial and old diner with exposed ductwork in the ceiling, booths and tables and with old movie posters on the walls.
Old Man & Son is a breakfast/brunch restaurant and I took my sister there for her birthday lunch last fall. We both had the same item: the Benny Brisket which is eggs benedict with smoked brisket instead of bacon under the egg. The buttermilk biscuit was homemade and there was a very lush side salad of local greens from Wandering Farm with a preserved lemon vinaigrette. Everything they serve they try to source locally and it was delicious. My sister has since been back with her family and tried the stack of pancakes with local maple syrup.
They are open from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm (1:00 pm during the current lockdown and take out only) Tuesday to Sunday. There are smaller portions available for children. The staff were very friendly and efficient and took great care with the covid protocols.
