Reasons for trip

Nunsmere Hall is a family-run hotel in the Delamere Forest near Northwich, Cheshire, surrounded by gardens and a 60-acre lake. It was built in 1900 for Sir Aubrey Brocklebank and his wife Grace. He was the chairman of Brocklebank Shipping Line, which was founded in the 1700s. His offices were in Liverpool where his fleet sailed all over the world, playing a vital role in maintaining the nation’s food supplies during the First World War. He designed, but never lived to see, the Queen Mary. His son John became the chairman of the Cunard Line and was instrumental in the design of the QE2.

The hotel is an ideal setting as a wedding venue – and that is where we came in. My son-in-law is a wedding photographer, and that is where he experienced Nunsmere at first hand. He bought his father a voucher for Afternoon Tea from “Buyagift”.
At £20.50 per person we had:
Sandwiches of:
Tuna & cucumber
Ham & mustard mayo
Cheese & spring onion
Beef & horseradish
Scones with jam & clotted cream
Vanilla pannacotta with strawberry jelly
Chocolate cremeaux with peanut & caramel centre
Lemon & raspberry meringue
Macarons
Choice of cafetiere coffee or a selection of teas.
It sounds a lot but they were miniature!
The service was very good, although we got the impression that the waiting on staff were inexperienced. This is understandable because hospitality venues have been closed for so long.

As you can see from the photos the hotel is quite splendid. Afterwards we had a walk around the well-kept garden with views of the lake. It was an enjoyable experience, so I hope we receive another “Buyagift” voucher in the future!
