Reasons for trip

I visited with my two granddaughters (aged 3 & 4). From the entrance there is quite a steep walk up to the castle, but parking available for blue badge holders right outside the doors to the castle (apparently it is a good idea to call ahead and book for this in busy times).

The grounds are beautiful and very well kept, there is also a little park for the children to play in, which was lovely. We had visited on this occasion for a particular art exhibition and it didn’t disappoint. They have crafty things down the centre of the art gallery for children to get involved with. There was also a very enthusiastic gentleman in the gallery very happy to explain about the various paintings, and very engaging with the children.

We also went to the café and enjoyed a delicious sandwich, on the way out the children were taken by a suit of armour and once again there was someone there willing to answer all their questions and explain things in language they could understand.
We will definitely return and spend some more time at the castle, looking at things that we missed on the first visit.
