Return to the age of Agatha Christie, the glamour, the nostalgia, with a trip in a steam train and authentic carriages from Pickering to Grosmont through the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside. No worries about parking, the railway has a large car park adjacent to the station, charging five pounds for the day, so you can change trains at Grosmont and travel to the coast at Whitby for a day at the coast or have a wander around picturesque Pickering on your return. We travelled on a family ticket with considerable saving and picked up our tickets at the station. The family ticket 2 adults and two children for forty pounds. The grandchildren were mesmerised by the engine, it’s noise, slightly scary, and the smoke. We alighted at Grosmont, where we found a friendly cafe with a garden and a cat called Tinker, who provided entertainment for the children, before returning on another steam train back to Pickering. Our young charges fell asleep in the car on the way home. Altogether a delightful day. Thank you to the volunteer staff who run the railway.
