Imagine this, perfect turquoise seas in front of you, majestic mountains behind and to each side a multitude of quaint villages where all faces are friendly and welcoming. Stop for a while to share a Turkish coffee or something cooler or just keep meandering by. Each side street is a tiny gem filled with cobbles, cats and flowers.
Or you can return sea side. No never-ending beaches here. Rather tiny inlet after tiny inlet, where the beach is pristine and lined with sun beds and umbrellas. Cold drinks are plentiful and waiters cheerful and eager to please. Wander far out into the cool wave-free waters or take the plunge and hire a jet-ski, fly high overhead on a parasail or jump on one of the local ‘pirate ships’ (so called because of their design) and sail quietly by to a secluded inlet for a swim and some lunch.
Later there is the treat of a drive across the top of the Besparmak Mountains with views to die for and a castle hidden at the highest point. Take a walk back in time with Richard the Lionheart and imagine what it must have been like in the rooms in those times probably covered in rich tapestries.
Or come in the winter when you may be lucky enough to see this little gem turned into a white wonderland – not enough snow to ski – but enough for flakes to ‘stay on your nose and eyelashes’ – and even build a snowman!
After all this it will be time to make your way to the Bela Pais Abbey snuggling on a hillside. You have probably been lucky enough to catch one of the many concerts performed within these ancient walls. A perfect end to our day – wonder what tomorrow holds?! Maybe we’ll travel to the beach where Turtle eggs have hatched and we can watch the scramble for the sea!
