Reasons for trip

During our most recent long weekend in Norfolk, our Son and Daughter in Law arranged a Day Boat Hire from Richardson’s Fineway in Wroxham.

There’s nothing to quite compare with messing about on the river and we spent a lovely three hours feeding our feathered friends, waving at other boat people and enjoying the late summer sunshine.

Our first experience on the Norfolk Broads was back in the early 90’s when our boys were in their early teens and this shorter trip brought back happy memories of those times, especially our first attempts to tie up at a public mooring.

On this occasion our son took charge of the steering, and we were happy to sit back in the tiny launch and feed the hungry ducks, geese, swans and seagulls.

The Broads are beautiful at any time of the year, but especially in August, and some of the thatched riverside properties in and around Wroxham are stunning.

If I was fortunate enough to win the Lottery I would be sorely tempted to buy one.

We stopped off for liquid refreshments at the aptly named Swan Inn half way through our allotted time, before making our way back to Richardson’s.

The young lads at Richardsons are exceptionally good at what they do, ensuring that all passengers are comfortable in their life jackets and giving a full and precise operating brief to our skipper.

On our return they were quickly out to welcome us back and exchange some humorous banter.

The cost of an hours hire is just £17 which includes Fuel, Car Parking, Insurance,Tuition, and modern buoyancy aids and the craft that we hired is the smallest available and will seat up to six people. Much larger craft are available to seat 8, 10 or 12 people. The largest will cost around £150 for a full day. Fishing boats are also available for £50 a day.

And they are open all year. Great fun and great value. Go to www.finewayleisure.co.uk
