Reasons for trip

We travelled in October 2019 and it rained for 3 days out of the 4. They have extended the tramline to the airport so we bought a book of 10 trips for 10 Euros. The tram from the airport into Nice only counted as one trip. We used the tram a lot and used up nearly all our trips. However, the tram broke down about 3 stops from our hotel and we had to walk the rest of the way. Good job it happened on arrival and not departure.
Our hotel, the Nice Mercure Grimaldi, was tricky to find initially but it was actually quite handy for the flower market and the Old Town. The air con was switched off for the winter but I found the room to be on the hot side so slept with the windows wide open which resulted in some noise from the street 5 floors below.

The breakfast was good with plenty of choice.

We had planned to catch the train to Monte Carlo (which was 10 Euro return for the both of us when we visited in 2018) but with the torrential rain we changed our minds and went shopping instead.

There were plenty of places to eat & drink within easy walking distance of the hotel and lots of churches to visit. Ice cream was delicious.

The Promenade de Anglais was breathtaking as always and there were some brave souls going for a dip. We walked round the port area and noticed they are extending the tram to the port from the airport which is due to be completed Dec 19.

All in all, a lovely break although the weather could have been better.
