This was our first location of our trip. The initial reaction to the hotel was very positive. It is extremely conveniently located, right in Dam Square. Within Minutes to anything you want to do. This hotel is about 20 minutes from the airport, a taxi will cost you about 45 euro for two people. I would recommend taking a train from the airport to centraal station and walking to the hotel. (about a 9 minute walk, very easy.) Back to the hotel. The staff was friendly however its caos during a busy rush in the lobby. NH World members don't benefit from the membership here other than gaining points. The room looked like it had been recently updated and was clean. The back tower of the hotel does have a faint smell in the halls but its not horrible, the room and lobby didn't though. the location is perfect. Dam square is obviously the starting point for walking to shops and through town. Its about two blocks from the red light district (if thats your thing), within an easy walk to public transportation and places to eat. I would recommend price comparison shopping within the block of dam square to see prices of other hotels, however this one was worth the money and is definately a strong contender. I highly recommend the Iamsterdam card because it allows access to a multitude of museum's a few at dam square. We will return to Amsterdam, however we never stay at the same place twice. I would try to find a hotel within the same area though.
