The first Comic Con to take place in Wirral was held at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton on the 1st and 2nd May. The event was celebrating the 45th Anniversary of Star Wars.
For the uninitiated Comic Con is a comic book convention where fans gather to meet the creators, experts and enthusiasts. Those who were dressed in science fiction costumes are called “Cosplay”.
Although the event at New Brighton was comparatively small, compared to others throughout the country, the costumes were brilliant. They held a parade and competition for the youngsters. In the convention space, there were stalls selling all kinds of games and memorabilia.
By day two, word had got around town and was even more popular. I’m sure the event will be repeated next year. We just enjoyed taking photographs. The people were willing to pose, as they had obviously taken so much trouble to get the outfits just right.
Look out for the event next year!
