Reasons for trip

We visited York specifically to attend the Mallard 75th Anniversary celebrations. For this event the museum had collected the 6 remaining A4 engines from around this country and USA & Canada. These were displayed all together in the main hall of the museum.

We actually went to the museum the day before the celebration was due to start, mainly to wander round as we were sure that it would be packed the next day.

The staff at this place are so friendly. We saw the machines on show and then got talking to the crew of the Sir Nigel Gresley. They were so nice and took us behind the scenes to see the others. In fact they were very helpful in taking pictures with the Silver Traveler Bag. I was that "idiot woman with a bag wandering round taking pictures". Thanks Guys.

Of course we went back and it was packed. You could hardly see the engines there were so many people. But the atmosphere was wonderful. Again Praise to the staff who were still smiling and so helpful.

This museum is a wonderful place to visit at any time and although entrance is free it is well worth making a donation.

It is suitable for all ages and we always spend a few days there every time we are in the area.
