Reasons for trip

Have you ever been to a restaurant and wanted to move into their bathroom? It doesn’t happen often, but with the fireplace, leather chairs, television, and marble stalls with floor to ceiling doors, you may be loath to leave. Fortunately the food is so good it tempts you out of the oasis.

Moxie’s isn’t in the most prestigious location – the parking lot of the Sandman Inn – but once inside, you forget you are near the Ring Road around the city. The interior is modern with slate and wood. During the warmer months, there is a patio. Although this is part of an American chain, it is the only one in Regina and only one of two in the province of Saskatchewan. According to the website, there are 60 of them in Canada.

I have been to this establishment many times and have never been disappointed in the food or the service. The menu provides selections for all tastes and appetites. I went for lunch this past week and enjoyed a half a turkey clubhouse sandwich with a side salad full of feta and dried cranberries. The friend I was with had the half beef dip sandwich with a side of broccoli cheese soup. They were $11.95 each. The meals were light enough that we were able to partake in a taste of dessert. I had the half order of sticky toffee pudding served with toasted almonds, buttery caramel sauce and French vanilla ice cream. My friend had the half portion of salted caramel and pecan cheesecake served with orange segments and blackberries. With the desserts and a couple of coffees, the bill was just under $40.

Last month I was here for dinner with another friend and pushed the boat out a bit. My steak main course with a skillet of sautéed mushrooms, acorn squash, Brussel sprouts, green beans, a large glass of wine and a small dessert with coffee was $46. Yes, it cost more than two of us for lunch, but it was worth every bite!
