Cruising into Bergen we had previously decided on a trip on the funicular railway to the top of Mount Floyen. We had previously booked our tickets to avoid the reported long queue's, and we were very pleased we did.as long they certainly were.
Each rail car has a capacity of 70, we were lucky enough to get on the first one back from the top. They operate a two car system – one goes up as the other comes down. considering the amount of work they do each day they were surprisingly clean and well cared for.
It took about seven minutes to travel the 320 metres to the top and once out of the station we were confronted by fantastic views down to the whole city of Bergen and beyond. Fancy a stroll – Pathways lead you through woods, around a lake and past mountain huts for even more views of the region.
There is a restaurant which we never used but looking at those that were eating 'al fresco' the food looked good, in addition there are a couple of shops, toilets and some seating.
All in all it was a great visit and in spite of it being a little crowded in the main area's once away it was very peaceful and relaxing. fortunately the weather was kind to us while we were there.
If you've not been before it comes highly recommended by me.
