Reasons for trip

We were given a pair of unwanted tickets, so travelled down to see the show at the Harold Pinter theatre on Panton Street, close to Piccadilly Circus. For years I had actively avoided this show, although I love musicals, because I had understood it to be along the lines of "The LIfe Of Brian", which I knew to be blasphemous and not our scene at all. Anyway, I really shouldn't have pre-judged as we both loved this show! It's typically Monty Python-esque so a lot of the humour is lavatorial and infantile, but with Jon Culshaw, Todd Carty and the amazing Bonnie Langford playing the lead roles, for me it couldn't fail. It's a spoof from start to finish, lots of jokes at the expense of foreigners, gay men, the class system, and moreover it makes fun of the musical and the actors themselves. Totally chaotic, but colourful, clever and great fun. It may be set in the days of Camelot, but we saw Boris Johnson on a bike and there were very modern references to Prince Harry's indiscretions, the Olympics, politics….. A great night out, and quite short – curtain up at 7.30, and we were on our way out still laughing at 9.30!
