Arrived Mid-Morning to Mont St Michel, traffic gradually grew as we got closer. As you can imagine being in the height of August it was exceptionally busy, took a while to get parked but was very well organised. Once parked got shuttle bus, which we didn’t have to wait too long given how busy it was. We decided to get off at the first stop where restaurants and cafes were as there is a photography opportunity over the dam, we took some photos then had a very nice coffee. Rejoined a shuttle bus to get us closer as it was a hot day (lots of people did walk it, some even parking further away and walking!). Upon arriving we decided to go through the entry which was furthest to the left as this took us straight up to the monastery rather than do the shops etc. Obviously because it is a ‘mount’ some of the walking is rather steep! The Abbey itself is a sight to behold and there are plenty of photo opportunities to take in the wonderful architecture. Once at the top we thought it might be a very long wait but surprisingly the queue to pay and get in the abbey only took us 15/20 minutes, you can book online prior to going which then sees you straight through. Both Richard & I were impressed (we are not all together very cultural!) but found the history of the abbey very interesting. Once we had explored the abbey the exit is then via the shops, cafe, restaurants etc. Shops stock the usual type of memorabilia and trinkets. We did stop for something to eat and as usual is a little over priced, but quality was not too bad.
All in all, we had a great day out.
