Reasons for trip

Truly the most dramatic setting you will ever see, bar none! This theatre has been cut out of the cliff-side in western Cornwall, and offers a good programme of performances throughout the summer, plus truly beautiful gardens, and the best scones ever (and I’ve been testing for many years now).

We went in late July, early on a somewhat stormy morning to catch (appropriately enough) a story-telling of The Tempest (storyteller: John Brolly); fantastic. Then we dried off and warmed up in the cafe, which has variety and choice to suit most tastes; followed by a very pleasant and sunny walk around the beautifully kept garden, while the children spent time in the museum.

The loos are the best-ever (sorry to be overdoing the superlatives, but when did you last see fresh-picked flowers at every sink in a sparkling-clean public toilet?).

The approach by car is very steep, with plenty of parking. Once in the theatre the steps have good handrails; and although my grandsons walked up and down several times, I only needed to walk back up from the stage area (to the cafe and exit area) once. And there are plenty of chairs for anyone to sit and watch from the upper level.
