Reasons for trip

OK let's start with rugby. This stadium is the envy of every rugby team in the UK. Even Sir Alex Fergusson raved about it when the new Wembley was still being built and major football matches were held here.

If you're a rugby fan – and I am since I moved to Wales 24 years ago – it benefits from being the most intimate stadium; in large part due to the steepness of the seating. But before you wince, even if you have no head for heights, it doesn't seem that steep. And when the roof is covering it (because it does rain here sometimes) the atmosphere is even more electric.

As for a pop/rock concert venue, it's outstanding there too. And, again, no need to worry that it might be raining because the retractable roof will be used.

I once took my 13 year old nephew there on a tour and we were both fascinated. We sat in the royal box, discovered how they use birds of prey to keep the pigeons away, learned how the pitch is set out in pallets and much more. (If you want to book a tour it's 029 2082 2228.)

The stadium is located on the edge of the city centre and literally just across the road from the rail and bus stations so getting there couldn't be easier. It's also served by a well-signed Park & Ride if you happen to be driving in from the M4 and don't fancy driving into the city centre.

Access for those with disabilities is also good with helpful information found on the stadium's website – http://www.millenniumstadium.com/home.php

With the 6 Nations looming and the World Cup later this year there really couldn't be a better incentive to visit if you've not been before.

And finally, as an English woman living in Wales, I have to say that this stadium is something very special and actually, in case you haven't noticed, I'm ridiculously proud of it!
