The Meriton Tower is visible from everywhere in Brisbane, at 81 floors it is by far the highest building. The tower in Herschel Street is opposite Roma Street Transit Centre, so it's perfect if you are travelling by rail or bus (or air – there is a direct, fast, rail link from the airport to Roma Street).
We stayed there twice on our recent grand tour, the first time for 1 night on arrival in Australia, the 2nd time for 2 nights before we headed home. Both times we had a 1 bedroom apartment; these are spacious and everything is new as the block only opened recently. The full kitchen is well equipped, the bed is comfortable and the shower is powerful. My only complaint after our first stay was that the pillows were too full and gave me a sore neck – I mentioned this when booking for our return stay and we were provided with additional, softer, pillows. The reception staff are on duty 24×7 and we found them to be helpful and friendly. On our first stay we were on floor 3 with our only view the other tower blocks round about. When booking for our 2nd stay I realised that a 'deluxe' apartment was only about $5 more and these are on higher floors with a view – we were on floor 18 with a view over the river and no street noise due to the height. The lifts are fast and are controlled by your room key.
We would definitely stay here on any future visit to Brisbane. It is opposite Roma Street station and only a short walk to the CBD, the shopping streets and the lovely South Bank. There are not many places to eat in the immediate vicinity, but we managed to find a couple of good dinners close by.
