Relaxation

We stayed for 2 nights in this hotel. It was a “Bargain Break” stay booked on the internet and we paid £137 for the stay including one dinner. Definitely good value.

The hotel (part of the Menzies group) is set in its own grounds; the bedrooms are in a relatively modern wing. We arrived slightly early but were welcomed and given our room keys straight away. Our room could be described as standard but pleasant – comfortable bed and a clean room with hot drinks and biscuits, a small table, desk and chairs and a bathroom with decent size bath towels. Everything you need but not particularly large.

We unpacked our few things (hanging area small but fine for a couple of nights) and then went off to the indoor pool. This was delightfully warm – 30C and we enjoyed our swim. We did not try the sauna or hot tub as we liked the pool temperature and stayed there for some time.

In the evening we went to the bar for a couple of drinks, unfortunately the draught beer was off but when we complained they instantly gave us a different drink and removed the draught beers from sale. The bar was moderately busy as there had been a wedding that afternoon but the staff coped well and cheerfully.

We went to the restaurant for our included meal – there were additional items for which we could have paid a supplement but both enjoyed the choices on the standard menu. We booked for the following night as well as the food, ambience and staff were all good. The second night we had a free bottle of wine which added to the enjoyment! (The draught beer had not been replaced which was a disappointment as we like drinking beer peacefully in the bar before the meal on a warm day.)

Breakfast both mornings was a comprehensive buffet (good sausages) or additional items could be ordered off the menu – my husband had Eggs Benedict the second morning but I stayed with the buffet. Overall a very pleasant, good value, stay with friendly staff and enjoyable food.
