This is the fourth time we have stayed at Melbourne House and once again we were impressed by the friendly welcome and comfortable accommodation. Situated quite close to the centre of town, this lovely old house has ample parking for all the residents and you can often park there on your arrival day by arrangement with the owners. This leaves you free to explore the pretty market town of Bakewell with its shops and cafes, or to walk in the surrounding countryside. Bakewell is well connected by bus to major cities so that travellers could use public transport to arrive. A perfect base for visiting Chatsworth, Buxton and other Peak district favourites, it also makes a good starting point for many walks or cycle rides such as The Monsal Trail. Whether you are in Melbourne House or its 'sister' property just across the road, Easthorpe, the rooms are large, well equipped and cosy. The accomodation is beautifully decorated and we have stayed in 3 of the comfortable rooms (so far). Breakfast is served in Melbourne house and is generous but simple to reflect the very reasonable price. The owners are friendly and helpful and willing to share their local knowledge to make your stay enjoyable.
