Not our favourite airport to get to from the middle of west Wales coast, but we were very surprised it went so well. Down to M4 and M25 with no hold-ups so amazingly lucky, then M23 and M9 with the hotel just off the 9A junction as it said it would be on their web site.
It was easy check-in and just 3 minutes from South Terminal, the soundproofing is amazing. There is an ice bucket in the room so add your own bottle plus ice from the bar – there is even a small plastic bag for you to collect it in!
It is a pleasant atmosphere in the hotel restaurant with excellent staff. Anoushka, our waitress, recommended a Chilean Merlot to go with the lamb Navarin which was very tender in a rich gravy and served with soft mashed potato. The steak and ale pie on special was not such a good choice as my husband found it very salty, with stringy beef and hard pastry. The waitress dealt with it really well – we didn’t complain as such but pointed out it wasn’t the best dish for a special. She took off the service charge and gave us a free coffee, but we left a tip anyway as she was so good at her job!
They take your car to secure parking and bring it back to reception for your return. Transfer to North Terminal is £3 per person each way with a bus every 20 minutes. It is a good system that works well. The return journey was not so good as traffic was at a complete standstill on the hottest day ever – 35ᵒ – and it took 4 hours to travel 80 miles. So, it was a good hotel in good location for that airport and a relaxing start to our holiday.
