We arrived in Marrakesh and glided through customs and were greatest by smiling faces of the local taxi drivers. The shuttle from the airport drove through a dusty landscape with pink and simple buildings, not much greenery. We arrived at our destination at the beautiful club with a very Moroccan themed decor, numerous pools and lovely rooms. The views from the balcony of the setting sun were stunning.
We ate local cuisine, which was delicious and all inclusive. Trips into the souks were cheap from the hotel.
We decided not to have a tour guide, so I suggest do not look at anything unless you genuinely want to buy it.
We entered a female only Hammam for the most incredible, naked, massage and scrub down for £13 each.
The souks are a step back in time like something form Indiana Jones. We were recommended to have drinks in a roof top terrace overlooking the marketplace with music, produce and snake-charmers, it felt like being in a move set from Casablanca.
The locals are pushy but polite, we visited mosques and gardens. However, the pull of the souks took us back to spice square to take pictures of tortoises and iguanas and purchase oils, soaps, mint tea leaves, charcoal scrubs, rose coloured lip balms. Plus, tile coasters, a pouffe, bracelets and the famous colourful Morrocan slippers. We struggled to spend £100 and that was including taxis, food, drinks, fresh fruit smoothies, postcards and snacks.
Such an awesome and beautiful place, steeped in culture and mystery. Even if for a long weekend I totally recommend this country and place for the experience and the hotel resort luxury.
